Red Beach blew up, Bridge Ramp Blew up, the Triangle Blew and took some friends with it. Frenchy, Mike Dearth, Dave Drew, where are you?
Later went to the rivers...YFU 1481 to Cua Viet, Dong Ha, Hue and places unknown.
You have a great site...keep up the good work! Thank you.

rainy nights and fire fights. Thanks for the memories. I screamed when I found this site. I was there and walked those roads. I lived it. It took me about two years to come to terms with it but I did it. It was not a real war. It was a military industrial complex dream. Billions of dollars went to companies whose directors were ex-generals and Pentagon deal makers. To all the young souls that never had a chance to live, marry and dream. We love you men and will never forget you.

Comments:  As a Marine I find sites like this one of the greatest importance. We cannot forget our dead and we cannot forget the ones who have not come home. The efforts of this page keep that alive. I was with 2/9 in 1971 as a BltLdTeam in Nam. We need to do all we can to force the issue of bringing home those who are still in Nam. This site keeps them all in our hearts and minds but even more keeps them alive. Semper Fi Marines and all who ride with the Marines M/C.

Comments: This site is a wonderful site to honor our soldiers. I just want to take a moment to speak a word of thanks for those who are now fighting to keep us free from terrorism, and would like to offer an idea for those of us who have been frustrated because we don't feel like we have the power to "do" anything of any significance to help the situation. We've all gone through the shock, the denial, the grief, and now the anger over September 11th. In order to begin healing as a nation, we NEED to do something with purpose and express our feelings in a tangible way. So my husband and I came up with an unusual idea for a monument that can be easily built by getting all the everyday freedom lovers to act together. It would be simple, yet rewarding, and become a positive part of history that would say, "We the people did this, together!" It will honor those who died, the soldiers who fight, and the freedom we love. Take a look at our idea and see what you think. www.OperationShoestring.com We want this shoestring monument to be for the people, and by the people. We ARE America, after all. God Bless this nation, and may He help us find peace amidst the sorrow.

Comments: I was fascinated by all the pictures on this page. I think it is a wonderful dedication to all the heroes that served during the Vietnam War. My father in law served in the Red Beach area during 1968-1969. I enjoy talking with him about his experiences and learning what it was like to be in Vietnam. It was neat to see someone have some of the same pictures of Monkey Mountain and the "Crash" that he has shared with me. I admire all who served and think highly of the sacrafices you made

Comments: I found this site while looking for info on the TV show 'China Beach', which much to my dismay. Is no longer on The History Channel every night. I would just like to thank you so much for the photos. I've never seen images that seemed so "real" before. Sure I've seen even graphic TV news reels, but not actual Veterans photos. As I get older (I'm 29) I'm slowly realizing how tragic war really is, and sincerely hope you somehow got through it all the best you could. I have nothing but the utmost respect for all US service men/women, and would just like to give a big "thank you" from the bottom of my heart. I do realize that freedom has a price, and do appreciate all you've done for our wonderful country. Godspeed, and god bless

Comments: I was on River Patrol from 1968-70(bag of laughs)had a PBR shot out from under me and 6 others on the crew.Next duty station same place -this time and LSMR .this LSMR was the 536 AKA " THE RAT" or the "BINJO MARU" I didn't know it at the time, but I found out the White River had the fire power of seven full sized U.S.N. Destroyers. We loaded out in Cam Rahn Bay after going up there from Da Nang.My job was "Fire Control Computers" I was in charge of 8 rocket launchers. We caught " Chuck" off guard more than once and when caught they would open up on us.One mission caught the 324 "A" and 324 "B" battalion of NVA regulars ,we wiped out over 6 thousand in 3 days.Body count was still going on when we left. This ops was not mentioned in the official Navy records of the White River in 1969 (The official Navy Records say we weren't even there;they say we apparently participated in maneuvers in Buckner Bay ,Okinawa,so there for Seal Team 3 that we also dropped into covert Ops wasn't there either.I'm going to publish this account in a book called "Fire For Effect" total combat pay equaled 21 months.Crew received Combat action ribbon;PUC:MUC:Meritorius,Two Bronze Stars and alot more.Hey,I did my job,Ohio sent its best -we zapped alot of zips.I did my job, even though they treated us real bad when we came home,I worked as a phone installer for Ohio Bell after graduating in 1966 till I enlisted in late 67 going to Nom in 68.I went home with a paper that guarenteed me my job back but they refused to rehire me,stating minority's were now being hired and took my job....Thanks alot Ohio Bell..I'll never forget that.

Comments:  I was the Quartermaster on YFU 74.
We were suppose to pick up the load of ammo at Bridge Ramp the night Milton, the craftmaster on the 78, offered to take the load for us. Our engine men were just finishing up repairs on a steering motor. Milton was also the Quartermaster I relieved when I came into Viet Nam in July of 68. I was suppose to be on mid-watch and preparing to take out the 74 the night the 78 was destroyed in our place. I would have definately been on the bridge when the attack happened, but was spared because of Milton volenteering for us. My middle daughter Katie went to Washington D.C. a couple years ago on an Outreach trip through her high school and visited the Wall for me. She took a shading of Milton's name and gave it to me when she returned home. I imediately had a chill when she placed it in my hand. I went to the Viet Nam Veteran's Casuality web site and looked up Milton's name again. I was shocked to see that Katie did the shading exactly 29 years to the day that Milton and the others had died in the rocket attack.
I frequently thank Milton and the others in my prayers for the life and family I was able to have because of their sacrifice.God Bless our Viet Nam Heros.Thank you!
Sincerely, Stan Houlberg

I may not have been abled to stay in because of my illness, but it did not take away from me, in the way I think or honor any MAN of WOMAN that has served in the ARM FORCE. Not to mention in the UNITE STATES MARINE CORPS. Right now I am a active member of a group known as The East Valley Young Marines of Arizona. Each and every day I pray that our young men and women come back home safe. I have only one thing to say, and that is   "SEMPER FIDELIS"

Comments: Excellent site. Served at Danang airbase in the fall of '66. Weapons load crew for B-57 bombers 'till we moved south to Phan Rang. Memories of a Marine Col. Chewing my can for not having hard shoes on, on the way to the Marine BX. China beach was still nothing but sand. I remember the men stationed on the river bridge shooting at anything floating in the water. Never caught a rocket attack but they got the F4s that took our revetments right after we rotated south.
