Comments: I am an Air Force Vietnam vet, I was stationed at U-Tapao Thailand in 1975, when the war was supposed to be over. But Saigon and Phnom Phen fell and we ended up working around the clock for five or six month babysitting refugees. We are rumored to have pushed over a 100 thou refugees thru our base. Also I got into a lot of trouble after I gave into peer pressure and tried drugs. Then I decided I hated drugs and went on a crusade to keep my fellow Security Police from using drugs on duty. I ended up getting in some vicious fights and finding myself all alone and hated. I don't have a home page, but I made simple one for my dad. Thanks, we picked up some refugees with C130s in 75 from Da Nang. But I didn't recognize anything, not that I got much of chance to look around.

Comments: Glad to see some survivors in your guestbook. In 68-69 I was 35 klicks south of Danang on hill # 35 Blackhawk. That was 1/1 armor cav (army). Then moved a few miles south to "LZ Professional" with the 1/46th Inf.
If only I could remember names of fallen comrades whose bodies we could not always retrieve I could possibly clear the air for their relatives. Some were weeks "in". Reported MIA--no body. Good page-memories...

Comments: Super site! I served with C/229th Assaualt Helicopter Battalion 1ST CAV Division(Airmobile)Jan'68-Feb'69 as a UH-1H crewchief. Our base camp was at LZ Sharon, just outside of Quang Tri city.
Danang to us was as close as you could come to being "states side", with it's PX, clubs, outdoor movies and mess halls with milk(both colors) and even ice-cream. We spent most of our time
on the "HOT" PSP maintenance area at Red Beach doing serious type work on our ships, so yes these photos bring back lots of memories. THANKS!

LZ Ross, Hiep Duc valley. If any of this sounds familiar please drop me a line at tskaggs6@hotmail.com. I know I often wonder about contacting people out of the blue. Am I imposing, do they want to talk to me, etc?

Comments: Bob, Thanks for your response back and your offer to find further info about Col. Donald Elmer Paxton. Unfortunately, most of the available information about him is incorrect as it
shows him a discharge date of sometime in 1973. However, his B-57 was seen to explode at night in northern Laos in the karst area and no chute was visible (this happened on Feb. 22, 1968).
I'm not sure how the discrepancy occurred. His wingman (Mr. Charlie Stumpf of Savannah GA) told me that Don always was "on the edge" about many things in his life including flying and ordinance delivery.
It's entirely possible that he waited too long to pull out of his dive before delivering his bomb load-I don't think we'll ever know. Like most of the guys over there, he was (is) a great person.
See you in P.T.S.D. group Monday night. Terry Mansell 68-69

In one way we all felt a little guilty that we weren't part of the fighting, strange though that may seem

Comments: I enjoyed seeing pictures of places I haven't thought about in 30 years. I was a Medical Service Corps Officer stationed with the Force Logistic Command at Red Beach (north of Da Nang) From Dec '68 to Dec '69.
I have several friends who were with 1st Med Batt. The pictures really brought back memories. I retired from the Navy in 1992 after 25+ years. Any more pictures of that time and place would be great.

Comments: I lived at Camp Tien Sha from May 1970 to Dec 1970. I worked at Lighterage Causeway. I served on the Y.F.U. 82 and the Y/F.U. 73. I have had 7 stories published about Vietnam in Soldier of Fortune.
I broke my back at the Causeway during a fire in the engineroom of an LCM 8 that we were turning over to the Vietnamese Navy. Spent 11months at Great Lakes Naval Hospital. In 1974 was appointed as a Deputy Sheriff,
made Sgt. and firearms instuctor in 1978. Then pushed a car out of a snow bank in 1985, re-broke back in same spot. Been in a hospital bed since. So I have a lot of time on my hands and a box full of pictures of the area.
So get a hold of me and I'll help as much as I can. E-mail me and I'll send you the stories that I've already got in print and we can do an audition thing. Bob

You have great pictures, those are very familiar to me, I went back there July 1997 to see my family, I hiked Monkey Mountain, Marble Mountain, China Beach... Things changed, the country is still beautiful and poor. I respect and thank all of you who serviced in Nam, it meant a lot to some people... God bless you.

Vietnam had a way of making you grow up REAL fast and tear you down at the same time. Spent about a week at Camp Tien Sha and the rest of my Da Nang time at Camp Carter.
Rode shotgun on Beer and Coke supply trucks during Tet. Remember the Tucumcari fiasco? Nice pictures--I'll capture.
