Wow, magnificent memories. I served with a six man RAN Clearance Diving Team (USN EODMUPAC Team 35)in Tien Sha from Oct 70 to May 71. You have stirred some cobwebs and re-ignited some good and not-so-good emotions. I loved my time with the US forces in l corps.
We conducted EOD operations from Qua Viet near the DMZ all the way down to Quang Ngai. That small team of six Clearance Divers continues to be my "family" and will be forever.
Thanks for the memories

Bean Simple ... a veteran ... a man of many complicated and sincere comments; on what Veterans of this Nation has to offer. As a Staff Writer of Supportthevets.com I have come to rely on the objective Narratives of what is import, and what is not when it comes to Veterans of this Nation! Although, I write of things that are important to veterans, ... and that for the most part; I attempt to bring together all our brothers under one roof to support ... the promises we have been denied! I take refuge in the Simple acts of kindness ... and the stories told by this feeling compassionate Vietnam Veteran; that keeps the true stories of sacrifice and success of veterans from our era; that have come out of this dark period in our Nations war time history!
So thank You Grandpa Bob ... for Bean Simple ... Your words and your stories have helped me, and many of my friends to come out of hiding, and stand shoulder to shoulder with those warriors of the past and present ... for we too contributed to this Nations Glory!

Found the site last night and really appreciate it. I was in Naval Security at DaNang from 11/67 - 11/68. The first six months at Camp Tien Sha and the last at the Navy Radio Station on Monkey Mt. about a half mile below the crash site. Can't remember too many of the group other than Rick Beaton and a sailor named Dierks whose aunt and uncle treated four of us to steaks and whiskey at San Bernardino just before we flew over. Bless you all.

i knew some of the guys on the lcu 1500 and my first day in country, saw the crew a day after it had taken an rpg to the con and leaving casualties during jan 68. i was a mike 8 coxswain for acu 1 out of coronado, and our westpac detachment at subic bay. i spent many a day and night at bridge ramp loading amo and supplies for the amphibious ready group which at the time did landings on the beaches of I corps near the dmz, and also spent a lot of time re supplying troops up the hue and qua viet rivers. if any of you have ever been to the qua viet river in the middle of the night during tet of 68, it was an eerie experience to say the least. it was daylight 24 hours a day with all the flairs at night, and bright sunshine during the day(except the monsoon season of course). anyway, i have never forgotten the 16 months i spent in the combat zone and the sounds of war coming from the jungle so close to our boats, but out of site because of the jungle's thick growth along the rivers and in front of our bows on beach landings. it was a mysterious place as we all know, and life was cheap.
finally, i am sad to say, we have another mini vietnam going on in iraq and we are being lead at this time by a bunch of cowards from the vietnam era. most of the vets that i see today are disgusted with the way the bush administration is running our military into the ground. if bush had served during vietnam, we would never be in iraq today, at least not without the un and the support of the rest of the world. let's hope things change and by the time most of you read this blurb, life will be back to "normal" in the world. gregg lorenz (usn 1966-70) if any of you guys who remember me surf on, please get in touch.
