Comments: served in Red Beach from July'67 to July '68. Was a Baker with 1st FLC, Ration Co. Used to be called 'mouse".Joined "Clutch Platoon" after 6 months in country. I remember that our base never got hit until I was there on guard duty for Sept. 1st, 1967. Anyone there at that time, I'd like to hear from you. Glad you made it back also, be lets never forgot those that didn't. Hard to forgot, seems like with the war today, my memories are clear like I've only been back a short while

Comments:  I was in Red Beach, with Ration Co.1st FLC. I worked in the Bakery, as a Baker that was near the main gate. I was also in what they called the "Clutch platoon" whom went out on patrols beyond the perimeter. Do you remember the two large radio atteneas that were kept lite even during rockets attacks? I was there from July 20th 1967 to end of July 1968

Comments: What a wonderful Memorial.Until three week ago I couldn't remember the kind or #. Went in search & found most everything on the Brownwater Navy site I needed to get me here I'm Overwhelmed & I'll try to keep this short, 2am. I was aboard the YD155 Floating Crane as a SN, deck hand that help raise the Boats & Recover our fallen Brothers.I must say I wasn't prepared for the photo's but I needed to come to this. Comments:  I was stationed at Freedom Hill with a combined forces security unit and will never forget meeting Bob Hope when he put on the Christmas show for the troops. Comments: About the "Crash" photos shown in the Da nang pictures. The pilot did eject from that plane before it hit Monkey Mountain. I was in a small boat near the entrance to the harbor area and saw the pilots parachute. I attempted to get to him but he landed in the water and was picked up by a small navy ship before I could get there. He was making an approach to the main air base and must have had problems with his plane, it was a clear day and you could not miss seeing a mountain in front of you.

Comments:  JUSMAG Thailand 65-67 (Klong Toey Det. Royal Thai Army)NSA DaNang, "White Elephant," III MAF, Bridge Ramp 67-69. Witnessed the tragedy of the YFU 78 and 1500 boats. I think it was BM1 Martinez' first night at Bridge Ramp when he was killed; a fine individual. I knew many of those dedicated sailors. I also was there when ASP-1 exploded. I'd sell my 30 yr Navy career memories for 25 cents but would not take a million bucks for them.

Comments:I was with Tien Sha security Dec.65 to nov.66 Just loved the rain,heat insects,snakes,chow, and the 1st class living Quarters, not to speak of a few folks who liked to shot at us. Would'nt do it again, but would not trade the experience

Comments: Was at Horn that nite, heading to midnite chow when attack took place, boats brought stretchers of Navy guys to Camp Horn from boat dock to trucks by front gate. Remember waiting for stretchers to pass, must have been 20 or more, before we could pass by. Nothing we could do at the time...S/F

Comments:  I didn't make it to DaNang until '70 I was in the 15th Aerial Port Squadron, but worked in the bomb dump. Got blown up March 29 '71. Luckily I only got some bruises. 140mm rocket in the middle of a bunch of 500 pounders. your sight brings back lots of memories. Thank you.

Comments:  I was stationed with the 1st light anti-aircraft missile bn. Bravo btry 1967 - 1969 truck driver! I drove up & down Monkey mountain everyday & to china beach,and the airstrip.I miss vietnam and the men I served with. cpl thomas,Frank Garra,Sgt. Ridgeway,Sgt. Whiting,caraco,Pop fahey,Doc bell,and many more who did their job so well. God Bless them all. I Hope someday the vietnamese people will understand and be Thankful for the Sacrifice our young men gave in Blood For Them. Comments:  I served with the 409th RRDet.,11th Armored Cavalry Regt. Vietnam 68-69. My girlfriend Patti has found numerous Vietnam Web Sites for me online and I have found them to be very helpful in healing and putting the pain in a safe place. Recently, I have lost several friends to Multiple Cancers apparently from Agent Orange, so All vietnam Vets, stay on top of your Health issues. I would like to say thank you to all of the people who have spent countless hours of their time to get these sites up and running and keeping them running. Comments:  I haven t looked at your site just yet , i just signed in , i found it in the Brownwater navy Site which to me is the best i have found yet , i just met up with another Sailor i was with in Nam and haven t seen or talked in almost 37 years ,and it was great , his Name is Terry Blanco from Memphis,Tn we served on LCM-8's together and ran the Perfume River in "TET 68" we went to Hell and back more then once . I look at all Military Sites from Viet-Nam and always looking for people i served with, i also Served on the USS James E. Comments:  spent many days and nights and nights in danang area in 1968 and 1969 with acu-1 out of coronado ca. running up to bridge ramp past the german hospital ship. sitting at bridge ramp all hours of the night loading and offloading supplies onto and off of our lcm's. lived in tienshaw too and spent many a drunken night at the club on the base. i thought danang was impregnable and i remember all the red alerts at night, the choppers firing rounds all night into the marsh in front of bridge ramp with the tracer rounds never ending. dead vc on the other side of the road who made a mistake taking on the marines. vietnamese women chewing beatlenut, picking oily vegetables out of the danang river, monkey mountain, marble mountain, the streets of danang parallel to the danang river being so busy with bicycles and motor bikes. it was a strange time looking back at it all. was it a dream? gregg lorenz bm3. acu-1

Comments:  I was stationed on top of Monkey Mt. with 1st LAAM btn pulling guard duty every night and cleaning the honey pots with JP-4 evvery morning. Where is Joey Lamb,Ron Romanelli, Keith Poteet, Sgt. Campbell and Sgt. Huff.Bear, Beeson,  Pres. Nixon started pulling units out of RVN. Many of the personell were going to re-cycle anyway, some were brought in from other units to go back with the 1st LAAM name, we Marines did not desert Monkey Mt. I was part of the embarkation team, convoying trucks up and down the mountain to deep water pier. I would like to get in touch with many of those who were the first to return on ships. We were in naval convoy, hit a typhoon and had to stay over in Sasebo Japan for a few weeks. Fat Jack Robinson, Teddybear Saltmarsh, Dwayne Payne, Mantis, Gunny Tachamoto, Lt. Tabala, Howard, Frank Reavy and so many others who returned to the mainland and then onto 29 Palms and some of us went back to Cherry Point and then on to the Med Cruise to rid the world of Idi Amin. At any rate, I would like to hear from any one who was with the LAAM btns then, Ustazewski, John Harding, Harris, Dennis Finnegan, Tennis shoe faircloth, Fahvre the football player, Borek, would like to have a north east reunion sometime, many were from NY, Ma, Ct et.al Cleveland and Chicago.
